Splat Zones: MG set
The Aerospray makes for a poor zone painter due to low damage output. All the paint in the world can't help when even a humble Splattershot bullies you into leaving. That's why you need Fizzy Bombs; either to paint the Zones for you, harrass, or to draw a flanking path.
Its ability to paint is disproportional to its ability to fight. It's often better to avoid the main battle entirely to ink as much as possible outside. This can lead to rear attacks, or Fizzy Bomb strikes from an unforseen angle that ends up cutting enemy movement in a crossfire.
Reefslider is an inexpensive hammer blow at 180p, best delivered to an exposed opponent. The advantage over Booyah Bomb is that it keeps you on the front lines. Hanging back to defend a zone is never an option; so overpaint while on advantage, gathering excess resources if not splats.
Tower Control: MG set
The Suction Bomb solved a lot of problems for the Aerospray back in Splatoon 2; now you'll have to learn to hit the central pole of a tower with your Fizzy Bombs in Splatoon 3. You're not so much playing to the objective so much as creating as much chaos as possible, threatening isolated backlines when opportunity arises.
Flank, paint as much as possible and assess the situation. Aerosprays do not have the damage output to fight by the tower so their primary focus is in painting as much as possible and spotting vulnerable targets. The more you move, the more teammates can use your pathways for attacking.
Reefslider follows your basic strategy of seeking out isolated players for quick eliminations. Simply remember that your main role is paint support, and doing that will either reveal targets or turn you into one, at which point you've become more important than the tower.
Rainmaker: RG set
Similar to Tower Control, an Aerospray's contribution is best served as a flanking distraction rather than pushing the actual objective. The Aerospray's damage against the Rainmaker shield is top notch but you make for a vulnerable target while close to the barrier.
Sprinkler and run will be a major part of your strategy. Even more so than Tower Control, overink the stage so as to charge special. Your fighting ability is nil and Fizzy Bombs alone don't possess the impact to budge a united team. No surprise flank attacks: run, toss sprinklers, run more and repeat.
Of course, Booyah Bomb makes up the other part of your strat. It's an all-purpose oppressive special which doesn't force you to enter enemy territory such as Reefslider. Unlike the Aerospray PG of Splatoon 2, you can't follow up Booyah Bomb with Burst Bombs so the offensive power of the special is reduced.
Clam Blitz: RG set
More so than gathering clams, the Aerospray's purpose is to paint as much area as possible. Toss Sprinklers far and wide so as to distract foes while painting. The more area under control, the easier it'll be for teammates to collect and attack.
95% of your offense shall come from Booyah Bombs. Against opponents guarding dropped power clams, dug in chargers maintaining map control or thrown at the enemy basket line; there's multiple opportunities for Booyah Bombs in which map features would prevent the Reefslider from being as effective.
Playing Aerospray in Clam Blitz demands daring and recklessness. You have no defensive options if the enemy team prepares a push, thus the entirety of your efforts must go into preventing such a scenario through sheer weight of area advantage.
End Thoughts
These choices are the same I'd suggest for Splatoon 2 kits: Suction Bombs to harass areas of importance in Splat Zones and Tower Control, spamming of the contextually appropriate special in Rainmaker and Clam Blitz. However, a huge difference between the two games was that the Splatoon 2 Aerosprays had low cost specials which made them far more threatening.
Special Saver will play a far more important role, especially considering the risky game of deep territorial turfing Aerospray demands. This is in addition to the mobility options the evasive painting machine requires. Aerospray without cheap specials just isn't the same thing.
