Splat Zones: Vanilla set
Despite the Nouveau offering options that paint the field, I'm learning to appreciate the vanilla kit in this mode. The Dapples tiny range makes it hard to fight in the open, so flank and drop Squid Beakons behind obstacles. The goal is to force others to face you outside the zones and help your mates win center.
You don't just drop a Tacticooler, you pair it with a Squid Beakon. The more you spread out your beakons, the easier it becomes to roll and surprise someone. This kit emphasizes encirclement strategies to takeover the zones from multiple angles.
Constantly press the attack lines forwards. Nothing in either kit offers defensive options so keep moving and gain as much territory as possible. Save a Squid Beakon for your anchor friends, one for when you're behind enemy lines and the rest is up to your personal fighting skills.
Tower Control: Nouveau set
Your overall strategy would be to abuse the clutter of Tower Control maps for hit and run attacks. This includes the tower itself. Your role is similar to that of a (Custom) Splattershot Jr: expose enemy presence and help your team eliminate targets for a proper push.
Torpedo is meant to expose hidden enemies and aid in your rolling ambushes. Save your ink for painting ahead of the tower, but stay out of line of sight or use Torpedoes as a distraction. You are the forward line, expected to take risks on offense.
Although typically a flanker, Dapples can depend on Reefslider to brute force past defenses and begin their attack from the rear. Well suited for Tower Control, even if the enemy avoids the direct blast, Dapples can roll and quickly splat those who slipped around a corner.
Rainmaker: Nouveau set
From the start, rush the Rainmaker and blast the shield. If you're not protected, that's your teammate's fault. No one deals as much shield damage as a Dapple and thus freeing the Rainmaker is your priority. Always approach in a way so that the barrier forms a wedge between you and anyone else.
According to the map design, you either pressure the front lines and toss out Torpedoes against the opposition, or break away from the pack in search of isolated targets. I value the Dapples as a better slayer than the Sploosh-o-matic, so seek and destroy rather than paint pathways.
Reefslider is your hammer blow against the front lines, with Dapples allowing you to roll away from most of the retaliations. It combos well with Torpedos, forcing a ton of explosions and attention on a single point. Trades should be expected, but the closer your team is to the goal the less they matter.
Clam Blitz: Vanilla set
Dapples make for fairly efficient clam gatherers that nevertheless can't capture a defended clam spawn or fight to reclaim a power clam. So you stay mobile, dropping Squid Beakons as lures and to split up your forces and overwhelm defenses. You are an agent of chaos.
Tacticooler is inexpensive enough at 180p and make your Squid Beakons more attractive. Instead of seeing your Reefslider evaded in the open world of Clam Blitz, use those open spaces to draw your foes into wide goose chases with your kit. Then quickly roll in from the odd angle and strike.
The Clam Blitz experience is quite similar to Turf Wars in some respect. It's much more individual, with a focus on engaging opponents rather than gathering clams. The more splats you rack up, the more incremental advantages your team gains until you find yourself with the ability to score.
