Carbon Roller sets: Ranked Mode
Splat Zones: Deco set
Carbon Roller Deco is a fast flanker with a subweapon relevant to the game mode. Avoid direct confrontation with the short ranged units fighting for the Zones but harass with Burst Bombs from the sides, or travel while the Bomb is airborne for the sake of misdirection.
Ironically, it's when an opponent is otherwise occupied that you don't want to Burst Bomb. That's when you close in for the splat before they escape. You bring the set with direct damage options for faster eliminations, but don't underestimate the asset of occupying more space and sharking from a larger ink pool.
Trizooka is more direct damage, an excellent tool against players painting from defensive positions. The level playing field of most Splat Zones maps works to your advantage here, in addition to your natural flanking playstyle offering shots from odd angles.
Tower Control: Vanilla set
You're either fighting around the tower or looking for a way to get in. If it's the latter, I've found that spamming Autobombs until someone is sick of it to be the best way to get people to chase you. The goal is to get your opponents to focus on the bomb, while you focus on your position.
Keep up this annoying behavior while on offense. If you ride the tower, toss more Autobombs to make any defensive positions unmanageable and force opponents to engage you. With some modest inking on your part, it should be easy to draw out defenders into your killing fields.
Zipcaster can be used as an Inkjet variant when you need to ride the tower. If you activate from the tower, camp your own landing spot while swinging about. It's easily spammable as a special, and often serves as an extra way to attack dug-in defense that a Trizooka wouldn't reach.
Rainmaker: Deco set
Your barrier DPS isn't so bad, although your poor range practically forces you to hug it. A better use of your abilities would be to attack enemy units focusing on the shield with a combination of Burst Bombs and Carbon Roller swings. You want to pass off as a threat that demands attention.
The goal is to pull the targets off center. If you come across a midrange slayer, Burst Bombs are still something of a harassment tool as you retreat. If you can't find a way to flank, long bombs will always turf some ground at the enemy's feet, taking away some fighting ground.
Trizooka is your basic tool against midrange to long range roadblocks, and something to keep on defense so as to outgun Rainmaker carriers. On offense, it pays to add the Trizooka within a flanking strategy, such that the enemy team deals with powerful blast coming from two directions.
Clam Blitz: Vanilla set
Carbon Roller is a lightweight clam gatherer, but a vulnerable one that would rather use inked areas to launch ambushes. As you travel, drop Autobombs to protect yourself against pursuers and prepare your next move. Carbon Roller only attacks when it knows it can splat; all other circumstances require escape.
Autobombs are also useful information to your friends, giving the direction in which the enemy is headed. It prevents overextention, such as following after a Burst Bomb against a retreating foe. If you think there's another ambusher in the area, toss an Autobomb!
Zipcaster mastery is necessary to increase your kill count and thus your value to the team. As a special, it is more adaptable to the wild and varying enemy locations than trizooka. Don't wait for specific scenarios such as an attack on the basket line: use it whenever a splat opportunity opens up.
