96 Gal sets: Ranked Mode

Splat Zones: Deco set

Remember that with the 96 Gal, you're not here to paint the zones but to prevent the other team from painting the zones. Though the sprinkler looks attractive, the better option is to plant your Splash Wall in deep and split up enemy forces from there. Hold your ground, and force others to work around you.

This idea sounds like it'd lead to flank responses but played intelligently, supports a strategy of divide and conquer. As long as your teammates are behind you to capture, you'll come out with a huge area advantage from which to remaneuver. Mostly, the 96 Gal has huge power upfront and thus faces its enemies head-on.

Kraken Royale serves as a safety button, an invincible force from within the zones. It's a better anti-flank response than Ink Vac; your Splash Walls let you get in while the Kraken provides the threat. It's important to think about how you'll survive once the special ends but as long as you're not too far in enemy territory, you'll do fine.

Tower Control: Deco set

The purpose of the 96 Gal is to take up valuable space and deny access to your enemies. The weapon is one part drawing paths and the other part setting up your area denial with Splash Wall. Beware of foes hiding behind the tower and obstacles, and look to acquire sweeping lines of sight across open areas.

96 Gal isn't so much a tower rider as a tower bodyguard. With the tower moving on its own, you attack those who attack the tower, safeguarding your position with Splash Wall. In a stalemate, you hold the line and wait for your flankers to strike.

You can also push through with Kraken Royale. Ink Vac is a fine special for this mode but Kraken presents an immediate threat to the enemy team. It frees up the tower for your friends, and it's easier to target those targeting the advancing tower. It's also the stronger defensive option when enemies have control of the tower.

Rainmaker: Vanilla set

As a defensive weapon, it is probably best to destroy the Rainmaker Barrier with your main and Sprinkler rather than move forwards to attack the enemy. The optimal move is to defend your dedicated Barrier shredders on your end, but it's nice to have the option to help out.

Unlike Tower Control, you're securing painted ground for your Rainmaker carrier. Since you cannot paint and shoot accurately at the same time, you leave the painting to the Sprinkler, and splat those who attack the Sprinkler. The goal being to safely guarantee forward movement.

Again, Ink Vac provides a safe respite for anyone behind you, with the Rainmaker carrier being able to pick off targets without getting shot at. On defense, it sucks up Rainmaker blasts and destroys offense. Your Sprinkler builds meter for this terrifying special, giving more range to this subweapon.

Clam Blitz: Vanilla set

You play mobile defense in Clam Blitz, looking over your Clam gatherers and attacking those who'd do them harm. Sprinklers offers greater map presence in a mode where turfing matters most. It allow you to be proactive, launching a decoy that the enemy must respond to, letting you reposition for a better attack angle.

There are no goalies in Clam Blitz, and hiding behind a Splash Wall won't help when the opponents launch their specials. The 96 Gal can't reliably gain ground on its own without sacrificing shot accuracy; so it's best to let others do turfing while you concentrate on removing enemy threats.

Ink Vac does the same job in Clam Blitz as it does in Rainmaker: soaking up fire from medium range whether on defense (during an enemy push) or blasting through a defensive line around the basket. It's excellent when you want to deny Power Clam recovery, sucking up the ink they'd use to reach their clam.
