Rapid Blaster sets: Ranked Mode

Splat Zones: Vanilla set

There's something comfortable to playing Splat Zones with a vanilla Rapid Blaster. Fire at the zones, space out potential threats and regularly lay Ink Mines throughout your advances. Control through constant poking. A strategy that hasn't changed since Splatoon 1.

For the more ambitious player, you can feign retreats and lead opponents into previously placed Ink Mines but the principle remains the same: a long term noncommittal string of evasive assaults. So long as you can evade Charger fire, zone capture shouldn't be an issue.

Meter building is a necessity when pinned down. Triple Inkstrike displaces long range anchors long enough for you to move in and fire on their sniping platforms. In this situation, Ink Mine allows you to hold your ground against counterattacks, and concentrate on preventing the enemy from regaining control.

Tower Control: Deco set

With an excellent main weapon specialized at stopping people from riding the tower, take Torpedo to flush out enemies swimming in the larger areas attempting to ambush you. Whenever an enemy is pinned down, toss a Torpedo to know exactly where they are and finish them.

Torpedo is also handy to identify and distract long range units trying to control the field. The Rapid Blaster is great as platform denial of any kind, so use that subweapon as a way to slip closer and start blasting. Against longer ranged shooters, Torpedo acts as stalling tactic and threat reveal. And an efficient painting device.

Ink Jet helps combat those midrange threats at ground level by offering you elevation, extra range and direct damage. The chip damage from both main and subweapon combines well with the Ink Jet's splash damage. It's a general slayer special to ensure the tower travels continuously.

Rainmaker: Vanilla set

Rapid Blaster offers poor Barrier damage and worse offensive capabilities, but one thing it does very well is hold ground. Start laying Ink Mine expecting to lose the contest, then move around the Barrier to take potshots at opposing Barrier shredders. Beware of enemy defenses, and prioritize defenses of your own.

Despite this being a passive way to do battle, the nature of Rainmaker demands you cut down a plurality of opponents before advancing the objective. As such, this kit excels at defense and getting surprise splats on overeager Rainmaker carriers. When on offense, concentrate on moving up and hitting defensive positions first.

Your big offensive tool is Triple Inkstrike, a versatile widespread defense breaker. Those who retreat from tripping an Ink Mine make the best homing targets to deliver the special. Move in immediately after the artillery strike and occupy as much area as possible, waiting for the Rainmaker to follow up.

Clam Blitz: Deco set

Rapid Blaster Deco is a fearsome slayer against distracted opponents, and Clam Blitz offers a lot of distraction. Force your opponents to play defense against your onslaught of Torpedo and counterattack against anyone charging forwards. Let your sub lead the attack.

Though Rapid Blaster lacks range, the full lines drawn by the weapon allows it to paint your surroundings and brings room to evaluate options after launching Torpedoes. The sub also serves as distraction, drawing sniper fire and allowing the player to move in. Repel close range fighters, evaluate against other threats.

Inkjet becomes necessary against dug in guardians, usually in tandem with Torpedo. Let the sub detonate, then activate special; making certain the Charger player lost its charge moving about. By taking on the slayer role with a weapon that can paint, you make your teammates job that much easier.
