Tenta Brella sets: Ranked Mode
Splat Zones: Vanilla set
With the ability to separate its canopy as an independent painting device, the Tenta Brella can follow up on turfing with lethal blasts. If you concentrate on the basics, you shouldn't need help painting or controlling the zones. Pushing ahead is a different matter however, and even your canopy can be overwhelmed.
Rather than pushing and possibly overextending, drop one or more Squid Beakons during lulls inside the zones. The goal is to establish a constant presence and let others take risks. Beakons can also serve as incentives to pull opponents into your fields, where you can sneak in for a point blank shot.
Ink Vac is another great sucker punch, specifically sucking up ink from adversaries trying to paint over your traveling canopy. It's a powerful push denial device and serves well when you're without a canopy. It's also great push support for your team when they decide to advance.
Tower Control: Sorella set
This is another slow game mode where area supervision is required. Instead of going towards a subweapon, defend your immediate area and prevent your mates from losing control. Even if the enemy climbs the tower, they won't dare go far without being assured they removed the threat you represent.
Because few enemies wish to engage a Tenta Brella head on, you'll want to cover your sides with Ink Mine. Tenta typically fights around or ahead of the tower, making flank attacks very effective. Unless facing an immediate foe, observe to see if anyone is taking a side path after launching your canopy.
As good as Ink Vac is, it's kinda redundant to your advancing canopy. Trizooka offers immediate offense to quickly remove anchors at the checkpoints. It works best at the ranges Tenta Brella typically fights at, meaning you don't have to commit to a frontal holding pattern as with Ink Vac.
Rainmaker: Vanilla set
Your barrier damage is weak and you are ill-suited to offense: best to follow whichever friend wants to go on offense and offer fire support and canopy protection. You don't want to lose the race to free the Rainmaker but it is a possibility. Save ink for a canopy deployment and try to regain advantage post barrier pop.
With the Rainmaker free, your canopy serves as much to advance offense as it stops enemies on defense. Because Rainmaker is mostly linear in nature, there's less emphasis on protecting your flanks. Squid Beakons at regular intervals ensures consistent pressure at the objective.
Similarly, Ink Vac produces additional tension at the front lines when your canopy isn't enough. It is surprisingly versatile on defense, allowing you to prevent the enemy from freeing the Rainmaker or stop a Rainmaker push. Combined with Squid Beakons, you guarantee pressure and support at the front lines.
Clam Blitz: Sorella set
As in Tower Control, Ink Mines are an essential control tool that identifies erratic threats roaming about. Start conservatively, inking about. Once you start hitting the center, start dropping Mines around the sides of established territory. Save your canopy to push towards center.
You're not the most mobile of weapons for the sake of clam collecting, and your strengths aren't in the field of splatting opponents; so deal as much damage any way you can. Take up as much space on the stage as possible, get people to fight you, survive and pick up your findings.
Trizooka is especially useful against guardians protecting the basket or dropped power clams. It's superior firepower to most chargers, and should be reserved for anchors. You won't have access to your special often so hold it for when it counts most. Deploy the canopy to ensure your place at the basket line.
