Dynamo Roller sets: Ranked Mode

Splat Zones: Gold set

Although the horizontal flick discharges a large amount of ink, this isn't the case for the vertical, which due to slow swings and lack of damage at range has trouble eliminating or even pressure midrange threats. All sorts of weapons can paint the field at range, and you need a subweapon to help combat such types.

A combination of Splat Bombs and vertical flicks should overwhelm and defeat foes at such distances. Splat Bombs are also effective against short range units retreating to deliver bombing attacks of their own. Dynamo is a defensive powerhouse but in Splat Zones, you will lose unless you gain some splats.

Surprisingly, Super Chump is neither for taking the zones or inking the field but for setting up a push. As stated, you can't win Splat Zones on defense alone, and Super Chump paints a large chunk of the enemy side, moving the battlefield to their end. This is how you secure the Zones with Dynamo Roller.

Tower Control: Vanilla set

Proceed slowly and emphasize defense on Tower Control. Big vertical flicks makes it hard for opponents to rush you while horizontal swings can cover the whole tower or paint forward position. It's when you face heavy opposition that your kit choice becomes important.

Basically, Sprinklers are thrown when under attack so as not to lose any positional advantage. They may even contribute with chip damage, a boon considering the uneven damage of the vertical flick at range. Thrown at the tower pole, they can even serve as a lure to set up a strike.

Tacticooler can act as an additional obstacle on the tower itself, but in a practical sense just helps your friends better do offense. Unlike in the Splat Zones scenario, you don't want to be part of the forward push movement. You're the one most likely to ride and defend the tower.

Rainmaker: Vanilla set

The Dynamo Roller is terrible at destroying the barrier and at offense against others attacking the barrier. Sprinkler at least offers a cost efficient tool at weakening the barrier, and can help control the field as you do jump horizontal flicks to dissuade opponents from approaching the Rainmaker.

When tossed against high surfaces, the Sprinkler prevents you from losing too much ground due to bombs, barrier explosions and Rainmaker blasts. You are defense, and that means preserving as much ink on your side of the battlefield as possible.

Tacticooler follows that idea of incremental defense, helping your teammates rather than your immediate position. If a mate gains the Rainmaker, then the same vertical flicks that make it near impossible for an opponent to approach you should be used to protect the carrier. Get in front.

Clam Blitz: Gold set

In Clam Blitz, the quick elimination of enemies comes at a premium, thus you'll need the versatile Splat Bombs. Save them against anyone holding a position to help you ease your assault: such anchors must be defeated at all cost. Otherwise, emphasize defense, at least around the center of the map.

Although a heavyweight, you should be able to help your team in clam retrieval. In contested situations, the pairing of Splat Bombs and big swings should help you win any engagement. The danger comes from overextending. When in doubt, let the enemy retreat. Dynamo plays defense first and foremost.

In that spirit, Super Chump returns as a special that shifts the focus of the fight hopefully to the enemy basket. The huge area grab provided by that special doesn't go unnoticed in a wide open mode such as Clam Blitz. Basically, you want to do defense in a spot as near to the enemy basket as possible.
