Splat Brella sets: Ranked Mode

Splat Zones: Vanilla set

Splat Brella keeps to the zones and occupies as much space as possible. Unless already in a skirmish, consider tossing a Sprinkler to increase the amount of ink on the stage. The less area you leave to the enemy, the easier it is to swim about and approach.

Paint wide when you can. You don't want to spend shots moving forwards and giving away your assault. Use existing trails and flank if you can. Setting up Sprinklers on high walls in advance gives you more time for ink to recover, unlike Autobombs which want your immediate follow-up.

Triple Inkstrike is a necessary special for challenging the enemy backline when they're in a dominant position. It works well within an overpainting strategy and as your primary tool to push within enemy territory. If on defense, it gives you an instant beachhead from which to start a counterattack.

Tower Control: Vanilla set

Tower Control maps are wide and as a skirmisher, you're looking for a way to initiate an engagement to your advantage. Sprinkler act as decoys to gather attention and lets you creep from odd angles. Or toss it around to build meter for the line breaking Triple Inkstrike.

As a front line fighter, you'll often toss Sprinkler deep in enemy territory as a distraction. You don't so much protect the tower from invaders as much as you look about for ways to approach and take out opponents. If they happen to be between the Sprinkler and you as your canopy opens, all the better.

Triple Inkstrike is a powerful special locked behind a high point cost. Launched to hit behind enemy rear lines, it forces your opponents to come to you rather than figuring out how to approach them. Bunch then up to remove anchors defending from platforms entirely.

Rainmaker: Sorella set

An excellent Barrier shredder, the Splat Brella player should nonetheless circle around to fire on opposing Barrier shredders. Autobomb can be tossed beyond the Barrier as a distraction so as to move in and intercept. You need less active ground to get in someone's face so it pays to be immediate.

On offense, Autobomb points out potential threats and helps set up your approach. If there's no way to approach a midrange threat, consider Autobomb spam. On defense, circle around and flank foes, with the Autobomb serving as indestructible diversion.

Ink Jet offers supplemental direct damage in a mode where every inch traveled counts. It's a hard stop to an enemy push, and splats reliably in tandem with Rainmaker blasts. Combined with Autobomb, you get a better view on where to lead Ink Jet shots for maximum removal.

Clam Blitz: Sorella set

Although primarily focusing on clam retrieval, Splat Brella needs to be aware of enemy movement and focus on engagement. Always let the opponent have the first move so as to counteract, and use Autobomb to force them into action. Read the movement of the bomb and decide your next course of action.

Let the opponent have the first move, but only on your terms. Autobomb can serve as a smokescreen if you find yourself suddenly attacked by someone after your clams. The exception would be anchor units taking a forward position. Bring up your canopy against them to prevent control of the center.

Ink Jet is versatile offense which allows Splat Brella to veer closer to a general slayer role. Following Autobomb movement further helps in leading Ink Jet shots in the right direction. Rather than Inkstrike the enemy basket line and fail to hold the area, concentrate on winning as many one-on-one fights as you can.
